The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python. It is capable of doing many things, we would expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the internet and playing high-definition video, to making spread sheets, word-processing, and playing games.

Workshop Duration

The duration of this workshop is 2 consecutive days, with 8 hour session each day in a total of 16 hours properly divided into theory and hands on sessions.

At the end of this workshop, a small competition is organized among the participating students and winners are awarded with a Merit certificate.

Raspberry Pi Development Topics To Be Covered 

  1. Setting up Raspberry PI
  2. Flashing the loading the SD card with the OS
  3. Booting the OS
  4. Intro of items on the desktop (Debian Linux)
  5. Intro and hands-on coding of Python (comparison with C programming over Linux machines)
  6. Enabling GPIO pins
  7. LED interfacing using the GPIO

Day 1 | First Session | Basic Electronics


  1. Resistors
  2. Capacitors
  3. Inductors.
  4. Memristor
  5. Voltage Regulator

Introduction to Microcontroller

  1. Diff B/w Microcontroller and Microprocessor
  2. Introduction to Raspberry Pi
  3. Architecture and Hardware specifications
  4. Introduction to ARM
  5. GPIOs

Day 1 | Second Session | Programming

  1. Introduction to Scratch Programming
  2. History and basic of Scratch
  3. My first program on scratch
  4. Led Blinking using Scratch

Introduction to Python programming Language

  1. History and Basic of Python
  2. My first program on scratch
  3. Led Blinking using Scratch

Day 2 | Third Session | Setting up Raspberry PI

  1. Setting up Raspberry PI
  2. Flashing the loading the SD card with the OS

  4. Intro of items on the desktop (Debian Linux/ Wheezy)
  5. Enabling GPIO pins
  6. LED interfacing using the GPIO

Zonal Competition

After the hand on theory and practical experience from the workshop, Zonal Round Competition will be conducted for the participants.

Just after the workshop a Mega Competition Zonal final of RoboFeast 2017 will be held. Winners will be awarded by Certificate of Merit . All Merit Students will able to participate in RoboFeast 2017 Final Round which will be held at 24th -26th March 2017 at IIT Roorkee.
